Our approach to design of buildings is to consider each project as a new and unique challenge. We believe the building endeavor is an opportunity to merge our client's aspirations and expectations with appropriate contextual forms and materials, responsiveness to the climatic and site conditions, functional requirements, and cost-effective, constructable design solutions. We do not impose a "signature" style, nor advocate a particular image for our buildings. Rather, we believe successful design solutions are the result of artistic and technical resolution of these factors. We consider our client to be an integral component of the design team, and welcome their involvement throughout the design process.

WARD - YOUNG offers multidisciplinary expertise in the fields of architecture, land planning, landscape design, and land use entitlements. WARD - YOUNG has extensive experience in a broad scope of residential, commercial, mountain resort, and public projects. This experience includes year-round mountain destination resorts, restaurants, custom homes, mountain resort lodges, retail stores, office buildings, and educational facilities. Our goal is to create special places that enrich the lives of the people who use them, while sensitively responding to the environmental context.
WARD - YOUNG was established in 1977 in the Tahoe-Truckee area. In 1983, the firm established a second office in the East Bay Area of San Francisco. We maintain a staff of approximately twenty-five between the two offices. This staffing provides the capacity to manage multi-million dollar and complex projects while maintaining "hands on" involvement in each project by a firm principal or associate. The firm's projects have been described as "timeless" and "straight forward, but aesthetic", and have been recognized with national and regional awards for design excellence. |
