Sustainable Environment Engineered Design (SEED) (CA & NV)

Our Mission Is To Improve The World By Designing Elegant Buildings That Fuse With The Environment Around Us, Leaving The Least Possible Impact On The Natural World, While Giving The Building Users A More Comfortable Environment To Live In. We Do This By Committing Ourselves To The Whole Building Approach To Design, That Integrates Modern Engineering Technologies With Graceful Architecture.

Services

Mechanical Engineering

The core of our designs utilize engineering technologies to provide building owners a more comfortable environment to live and work in. Our designers have designed mechanical systems that include chillers cooling towers, radiant heating and cooling, under-floor air distribution, and ground source heat pumps for buildings as large a 1 million square feet and as small as 600 square feet.

Residential Design

Around the mountains of the Sierra Nevada you will find a few elegantly designed homes that utilize the 300 days of sun each year to heat the home and reduce energy use by as much as 60%. Our engineering dramatically effects the placement and massing of the homes structure, eventually creating an elegant design the melds with its environment.

Solar & Renewable Energy Engineering

Solar water heating and storing is a means of collecting the suns energy for use of heating homes. These complicated systems require our mechanical engineering expertise to be effective.

Photovoltaic design requires a unique understanding of a building's energy use and the building users everyday practices. We utilize our engineering expertise to help businesses and home owners remove themselves from dependency on the local power company.

Wind and water turbine electrical generation can be the most cost efficient means to creating electricity for use. Again, our engineering expertise successfully allows us to design these systems for our clients.

Lighting Design

Often we are expected to design electrical systems that function well with our solar electricity generator. Part of the coordination is the use of high performance lighting designs that minimize electricity use by designing around fluorescent, LED, occupancy sensors, and daylighting controls

Energy Performance Modeling

Often we are presented with a challenge to assist architects in achieving the goals which are laid out in our mission statement. Our assistance begins with energy models that help us determine how the building is reacting with its local environment. These models include california title 24, ashrae 90.1, 10 cfr part 435, life cycle cost analysis, and simple reports that suggest to the building owner simple means that increase their bottom line.

Commissioning Services

Commissioning is a systematic approach to assuring that the design concepts are whole and worth their investment, by bringing the design and construction team to the field in order to witness and complete the actual mechanical and electrical systems at work. It is estimated that the united states could reduce their energy use by 20% if all buildings were commissioned. We feel no project is complete without this final step.

LEED Consultant

LEED is a point system created by the usgbc which can be used to give your building a "real" claim on environmentalism. Our engineering background gives us a unique perspective into more than half of the points that are available, which typical leed consultants don't have. We can assist in getting your building LEED certified.
