About Us

When Choosing a Solar Electric System Provider There are 3 important factors to consider:
1. EXPERTISE 2. SERVICE 3. VALUE
EXPERTISE is required to design a safe system that will accurately and reliably produce electricity.
SERVICE is always an essential part of the successful ownership of a solar system.
VALUE is high-quality equipment & service at affordable prices.
1. EXPERTISE
Plan It Solar's expertise is spread out over three decades and is comprised of three distinct teams.
Technical Expertise
Our main designers live with solar. Their combined expertise encompasses solar electricity, wind power, hydropower, solar hot water & solar water pumping. Two have been working with solar since the 1980s and two live off the grid with solar power. And, until our office moved in 2005, Plan It Solar ran on an Evergreen solar system.
Management Expertise
We have 4 project managers who focus on maintaining a productive and efficient interface between our customers, our installers and the 2 agencies involved with most solar projects: PG&E and your local building department. Two live with Evergreen on-grid solar systems.
Installation Expertise
Our exclusive installation partners are the experienced, talented and friendly crew at California Solar Electric, who work seamlessly with us as one cohesive team during the installation of all our solar systems. They will be doing the hands-on install work, allowing us to provide you with a 100% local combination of expert sales, design, service and installation.
2. SERVICE
Plan It Solar's unparalleled commitment to high-quality customer service is setting new standards for the local solar industry. Ask around and you'll find that our level of customer satisfaction results in happier end users and raises the bar for what a new solar system owner can expect from a local service-based solar energy company.
* Accurate power output estimates * Honest PG&E savings estimates * Most cost-effective PV designs * Complete project management from design to post-installation * A local network of solar financing * A dedicated and educated staff * Free 1-year service agreements * Ten-year installation warranties * 24-hour service for off-grid calls * We show up for appointments and return phone calls
3. VALUE
EQUIPMENT VALUE
Plan It Solar's preferred brands of solar system equipment reflect the highest quality standards on the planet. While other solar companies might sell you the cheapest panels they can find, you will often get exactly what you pay for. We are able to sell PV panels made by BP, Sharp, Mitsubishi, SolarWorld, SunTech & Sanyo, but we prefer Evergreen and SunPower. These are the two primary solar panels we sell & their distinct advantages:
Evergreen ES-190 190W
The most environmentally friendly solar panel made, with less energy, less silicon, and fewer chemicals needed per panel, plus Evergreens are made here in the US. Less silicon = less cost, and tighter output tolerances = real world output closer to actual rating.
SunPower SPR-215 215W
The world's most efficient solar panel on the market since 2005, with a unique completely all-black look. Available at Plan It Solar in the Gold Country region.
INSTALLATION VALUE
Beware of the cheap installation! Some contractors may hire inexperienced, uncertified workers to assemble your solar investment. Solar systems are designed to operate for decades if carefully assembled in accordance with all safety codes. Always use a crew run by a NABCEP-certified and experienced hands-on solar electrician. CA Solar Electric Co. ensures that all of Plan It Solar's customers receive a competitively priced installation done by a properly qualified, trained & insured crew. Together we provide all-around superior-quality equipment, installations and customer service, at affordable prices.
It all adds up to the best value around!

On Grid
There are 3 main components to an on-grid solar electric system:
Solar Panels Also referred to as PV panels or modules. PV is short for photo-voltaic ("light-powered"). A group of PV panels is called an array.
Mounting Rack This is a metal support structure that holds an array of solar panels in a tilted position facing the sun. Some even track the sun.
Inverter PV panels produce "DC" power that is different than the "AC" utility line power. Inverters accept solar electricity on one side and emit "AC" electricity on the other electricity that is useful to the utility grid.
The utility meter will track the amount of solar power produced, giving you credit for what you produce. These systems are actually designed to make your meter spin backwards!
It's no secret, just ask us how - at Plan It Solar! |
Off Grid
There are 5 main components to an off-grid solar electric system:
Solar Panels
Also referred to as PV panels or modules. PV is short for photo-voltaic ("light-powered"). A group of PV panels is called an array.
Mounting Rack
This is a metal support structure that holds an array of solar panels in a tilted position facing the sun. Some even track the sun.
Charge Controller
This is the brain of a solar system, both monitoring and managing the electricity between the PV panels and the batteries.
Batteries
Also called a "battery bank," a group of batteries acts just like a Solar Power Bank Account: you deposit solar energy generated during daylight hours and withdraw it throughout the day as needed.
Inverter
An inverter accepts solar-battery power on one side and then emits AC power that is similar to utility power and is necessary to run most home appliances. |

Martin, April & Daniel,
PG&E installed and E-7 meter yesterday. Thank you so much for working together with me and making this happen.
They are covered with snow today so we haven't saved any CO2 yet, but we will.
Thanks also for everything you do for the community and the planet- including sponsoring the film festival. I hope you enjoyed it- many people left inspired.
