"Dreamscapes to Greenscapes: Designing, Transforming and Building a Future," will be hosted by American Institute of Architects, Northern Nevada chapter, on Sept. 12-15 at the Hyatt Regency Resort in Incline Village. The conference will promote sustainable design and energy conservation in the region.

Featured speakers will be Edward Mazria, AIA, founder of Architecture 2030, R.K. Stewart, FAIA, national AIA president, and Greg Franta, FAIA, Rocky Mountain Institute. Mazria has won international fame for his Architecture 2030 campaign that calls for buildings to be designed, constructed and operated using drastically lower amounts of fossil fuels. The AIA has adopted the 2030 Challenge as its official position on global warming.

USGBC will be offering LEED prep courses for General Contractors and Construction Managers. Eric Makela, ASHRAE will be presenting energy conservation guidelines and advanced energy design for small offices.

This six-state regional conference includes Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming. AIANN is especially inviting contractors from northern Nevada to meet architects, interior designers and suppliers and learn about the newest materials and methods for creating sustainable buildings.

An exclusive "green" trade show and expo with a maximum of 30 booths will part of the conference, and it is anticipated that 20 booths will feature products and services related to sustainable design and building. Products may range from recycled carpet to ways to incorporate all-natural lighting in design. Demonstrations of applications will be presented on Thursday and Friday, Sept. 13 and 14. For further information on booths, contact Judy and Jerry Brooks, (775) 827-4441 in Reno.
