Green Building Trouble In South Lake Tahoe
STATELINE, NEV. Sierra Colina, a 50-unit housing development on 18 acres in Stateline, has been selected as a new LEED for Homes pilot project. It's one of several projects in the Lake Tahoe region seeking LEED certification. But many of the area's project developers are seeing the lights dimmed on their green dreams, says Cheryl Murakami, president of the South Lake Tahoe Association of Realtors.
For instance, developers of a $410 million convention center project in the Lake Tahoe basin reportedly reneged on LEED certification plans in January. The project team was unavailable for comment, but Murakami says she believes the region's administrative rules have stifled creativity when it comes to building green.878
