SiGBA News Update: June 2007

Events Past & Present
Our Speaker Series has been on a roll! We've sponsored topics ranging from photovoltaic technology, to BioFuels, to electro-pollution and it's effect on our health.

Join us in June for the first Series in Reno, featuring Mary Winston of Energy Masters and Scott Lange of Sun-E Concepts. We're more than excited to have our first Reno event, but just as excited that it's hosted at Patagonia! So join us on Tuesday, June 5th from 6:00-7:30pm, and look forward to more SiGBA happenings in the Reno area!

Well don't worry. If you missed us at the 15th Annual Truckee Home & Building Show over Memorial Day weekend, and won't make it to our first Reno Speaker Series, check out our booth at The Reno Envirolution Experience on June 10th from noon-6pm. The Reno Envirolution Experience will be a day of music, food, and of course, education. Check out www.TheEnvirolution.com for more details.

Also in June, yes there's more, SiGBA is sponsoring a Green Real Estate Mixer, hosted by local architect John Stouman. On June 28 learn about green categories on the MLS, and what it means to be an "Eco-Broker". Visit our website for more information, and stay tuned for what's to come in JULY!

Finally: engineers, architects, landscape architects, general contractors, and government staff do not want to miss the FREE 2-Day LID Training Workshop hosed by the Truckee River Watershed Council on June 28 & 29. Learn design and installation techniques for LID stormwater management. Visit the SiGBA.org calendar or www.truckeeriverwc.org for more information.

SiGBA Website
Be sure to check out www.sigba.org for further information, as well as updates we're constantly working on to improve our site! The Website Committee is working to incorporate a dynamic membership listing. Also, in an effort to build sustainable relationships with local organizations, we are planning to integrate event & meeting information for other organizations on our website calendar.

We are in need of some good technical volunteers who know a thing or two about efficient website organization, strategy, and implementation. If you're at all interested, if you want to be of assistance, let us know! As most non-profit organizations, we run on volunteers and always love to meet more!

Volunteer(s) of the Month
SiGBA owes a BIG THANK YOU to two long-standing volunteers Rick Solinsky and Meghan Bosher for their unyielding efforts in planning, organizing and running the Truckee Home & Building Show's Green Building Symposium.

The success of the Symposium could not have been possible without the countless hours both these volunteers put in. Thank you Rick and Meghan for your passion to promote, educate and inspire. SiGBA and the community thank you for your leadership, drive and dedication.

Message from the Director
What a great time to be involved in the regional green movement! Discussions and actions at every level, from the individual home owner/renter to the large-scale community developer to elected officials, green living and green building ideas are taking shape. SiGBA is diligently working to position ourselves as a catalyst for the movement.

We are currently in an unprecedented state of growth for the organization. We have a lot of capacity to build as our membership and reach grow. We are immersed specifically with updating our long-term strategic & organizational plans; making improvements to our web site & resources; building educational tools & topics; organizing membership outreach & database management; and developing organizational effectiveness through communication.

We certainly have a long way to go, and yet we have come so far in the past four years. We wish to celebrate every accomplishment and task no matter how small, because we understand that it is the small achievements that lead to great successes.

If you are not a member of SiGBA, please consider joining. If you are one, thank you for your support. Please attend our monthly board meetings and give us feedback as to where you want your organization to focus. Please register at www.sigba.org and sign up to volunteer. We are always looking for help in the Events, Website, Membership and Marketing Committees.

Also, if you wish to make a contribution or donation to SiGBA, please contact us at info@sigba.org or 1-877-744-2248.

Thank you again for your support.
