greenUP! Mixer June 17 After Reno Green Summit
On June 17, SiGBA/greenUP! is having its next event to get together several of the sustainability organizations in Reno for a mixer in hopes of Creating Sustainable CommUNITY. We expect non-profits, businesses, and eco-agencies to be present. There will be snacks and a no-host bar to facilitate a great green networking event.

Beginning at 5:00 p.m., the event immediately follows the City of Reno's annual Green Summit which runs from 1:00pm to 5:00pm at the Joe Crowley Student Union at UNR. No need to RSVP, just arrive with your business cards in hand and an appetite for discussing sustainability with the City's finest.

Tim Elam Green Roofs Event A Hit
On May 20 from 4-6 pm, Tim Elam gave a tour of his enchanged garden and discussed "Everything about Green Roofs." There was a lively and interactive discussion with green architechs, landscapers, builders, and other interested parties from four of SiGBA's five regions. The event concluded with a green mixer in a beautiful outdoor setting.

Green roof activist, Elam, has landscaped his property with recycled materials and is an advocate for reuse of building materials. The bricks in his walkways and patios are from buildings scrapped during Reno's downtown renovation. The driveway is made of broken-up sidewalks, fashioned like cobblestones. His wife's greenhouse is entirely made from reclaimed materials and the two small cabins he uses were once located on Fourth Street, before he dismantled them and reconstructed them on his property.

Elam's product is called "The GoGreenroof Water Harvester."

SiGBA Eco Symposium Invests in Community
On April 23, SiGBA enjoyed an astounding Eco-Symposium at the Squaw Creek Resort. The mission of the event was to give community members knowledge and stimulate thought on the importance of investing in our environment, communities and business, creating jobs and a sustainable future for the Sierra Nevada Region. Regional leaders looked into the future of California and Nevada's green economy. Speakers were from the top environmental organizations throughout Northern California and Nevada and included 350.org, Nevada Energy, TDPUD, Sierra Business Council, Lake Tahoe Prosperity Plan, Next 10, Small Business California, California Ski industry Association, JMA/Alpine Meadows, North lake Resort Association, Moody's, Bently BioFuels, Hungry Mother Organics and Sierra Nevada Brewery.

Its impossible to describe the mood of the 75 people who attended other than to say it was an event you didn't want to miss.

SiGBA expects to continue dialog with this group and will have some of the speakers present at the upcoming Tahoe greenFEST on July 10-11 in Kings Beach.
