Rammed Earth Construction

Rammed Earth Buildings are typically found in arid regions where wood is difficult to come by.Walls are constructed from a mixture of earth that has suitable proportions of sand, gravel and clay sometimes with an added stabilizer.

In order to build a wall, formwork is set up creating the desired shape of the section and damp material is poured in and a pneumatically powered backfill tamper is then used to compact the material to around 50% of its original height. Rammed Earth structures offer excellent thermal mass, as it heats up slowly during the day and releases its heat during the evening.
